POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Director of Membership and Wellness provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to drive membership growth, engagement, and program excellence at the Wilson Family YMCA. This role oversees membership and wellness operations, including staff development, financial management, and program innovation, to ensure exceptional member experiences and alignment with the organization's mission. The Senior Director fosters community partnerships, promotes inclusivity, and maintains a culture of safety, service, and collaboration. By leveraging data-driven insights and industry trends, the position plays a critical role in enhancing the YMCA's impact on the community through transformative health and wellness initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leadership and Staff Development: Supervise, mentor, and develop staff: Recruit, train, and manage membership and wellness teams to ensure high performance and alignment with YMCA values. Foster a positive team culture. Promote staff collaboration and professional growth. Conduct performance evaluations. Set measurable goals and provide constructive feedback.
  • Membership Engagement and Growth: Work with Membership Director to develop and implement membership strategies. Design plans to attract, retain, and engage members. Monitor membership metrics. Track growth, retention rates, and member satisfaction. Build relationships with community partners to promote YMCA programs.
  • Wellness Program Oversight: Plan and execute wellness initiatives. Oversee fitness programs, personal training, CrossFit and group exercise offerings. Ensure program quality. Regularly review and update wellness offerings to meet member needs. Collaborate across departments. Partner with youth, aquatics, sports and other departments to create integrated wellness experiences.
  • Financial Management: Develop and monitor budgets. Oversee financial performance for membership and wellness programs. Identify revenue opportunities. Implement strategies to increase membership revenue and wellness program participation. Control expenses. Ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining program quality.
  • Facility and Equipment Management: Ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality of wellness areas and equipment as well as membership areas. Coordinate equipment maintenance. Schedule repairs and replacements as needed. Implement safety protocols. Maintain a safe environment for staff and members.
  • Member Experience and Customer Service: Supervise Membership Director to ensure high-quality member service. Implement strategies to provide exceptional experiences for all members. Resolve member concerns. Address feedback promptly and effectively. Promote inclusivity. Ensure all programs and services are accessible to diverse populations.
  • Strategic Planning and Innovation: Contribute to strategic initiatives. Align membership and wellness programs with the YMCA's mission and goals. Stay current on industry trends. Innovate by incorporating leading practices in membership engagement and wellness programming. Measure impact. Use data and member feedback to evaluate program success and adjust as needed.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to policies. Uphold YMCA standards and state/local regulations. Maintain certifications. Ensure staff have appropriate certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid). Manage risk. Proactively address potential hazards in membership and wellness activities.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the YMCA. Attend community events and networking opportunities. Develop partnerships. Collaborate with local organizations to expand YMCA's reach. Foster volunteer involvement. Engage volunteers in membership and wellness efforts.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide regular updates. Report progress and challenges to Branch Executive Director. Communicate effectively. Maintain open communication with staff, members, and external stakeholders. Prepare reports. Use data to demonstrate impact and inform decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, exercise science, health promotion, recreation management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Additional certifications in fitness or wellness (e.g., YMCA Leadership certifications, ACE, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent) are preferred.
  • Three years of leadership experience in membership, wellness, or program management, preferably in a YMCA or similar nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record of managing teams, including recruiting, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Experience with budget development and financial oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in membership sales, retention strategies, and wellness programming.
  • Familiarity with customer service and conflict resolution.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry trends in membership, health, and wellness.
  • Proficiency with membership management software and basic computer applications.
