Are you passionate about swimming and love helping young athletes thrive? The YMCA of Greater Augusta is hiring a Swim Team Assistant Coach to work alongside our Head Coach in developing confident, skilled, and motivated swimmers. This is a great opportunity to support youth development while modeling YMCA core values.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assist the Head Coach with leading structured and engaging swim practices.
- Provide direct instruction and feedback to swimmers of all skill levels.
- Coach at swim meets-helping with warm-ups, relays, and on-deck support.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and team-focused environment that reflects YMCA values.
- Communicate with swimmers, parents, and YMCA staff regarding schedules and progress.
- Stay up to date with current coaching techniques and best practices.
- Be ready to jump in (literally and figuratively!) to help where needed on deck and in the water.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Qualifications:
- Age 18 or older.
- Previous experience as a swim coach or competitive swimmer.
- Strong knowledge of swim strokes, technique, and conditioning.
- Ability to work with swimmers of all ages and abilities in a team setting.
- Effective communicator with a positive, supportive coaching style.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for meets.
- Current (or willing to obtain within 60 days): CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- USA Swimming Coach certification preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Regular movement on pool decks (indoor and seasonal outdoor environments).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Must remain alert and safety-focused at all times.
