Are you passionate about swimming and love helping young athletes thrive? The YMCA of Greater Augusta is hiring a Swim Team Assistant Coach to work alongside our Head Coach in developing confident, skilled, and motivated swimmers. This is a great opportunity to support youth development while modeling YMCA core values.

 

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assist the Head Coach with leading structured and engaging swim practices.
  • Provide direct instruction and feedback to swimmers of all skill levels.
  • Coach at swim meets-helping with warm-ups, relays, and on-deck support.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and team-focused environment that reflects YMCA values.
  • Communicate with swimmers, parents, and YMCA staff regarding schedules and progress.
  • Stay up to date with current coaching techniques and best practices.
  • Be ready to jump in (literally and figuratively!) to help where needed on deck and in the water.

 

What You'll Need to Succeed

Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Previous experience as a swim coach or competitive swimmer.
  • Strong knowledge of swim strokes, technique, and conditioning.
  • Ability to work with swimmers of all ages and abilities in a team setting.
  • Effective communicator with a positive, supportive coaching style.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for meets.
  • Current (or willing to obtain within 60 days): CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • USA Swimming Coach certification preferred.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Regular movement on pool decks (indoor and seasonal outdoor environments).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Must remain alert and safety-focused at all times.
