Position Summary: Under the direction of the Branch Executive the incumbent develops, organizes and implements high quality Youth Sports and Family program(s) in accordance with the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta's mission. Responsible for program budget, development and control.

Supervision Exercised: 30+ part time staff employees during peak season

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.

Typical Working Conditions: Position is in office environment and requires automobile travel to branches, training, seminars or workshops. Bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, verbal communication, hearing, seeing, 40% keyboard input, some sitting.

Job Segments:

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities
  • Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
  • Manages budgets related to the position. Ensures programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living
  • Develops and maintains relationships school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Recruit and organizes training and meetings for volunteer coaches
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations
  • Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Attends Branch Board meetings at the request of the Branch Director
  • Attends Family Camp and Youth Sports Cabinet meetings as required
  • Compiles program statistics and surveys. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign
  • Complies with all DHS guidelines and requirements
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One to three years' previous experience in program management
  • Certifications requires within 45 days of hire: CPR/AED, BBP, and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

Annual Salary: $26,000 -$28,000
