Job Title: Bus Driver

FLSA Status: School Year Part Time Non-Exempt                             Job Grade: 4

Reports to: Center Director                                                             Revision Date: July 2017

                                                                                                                            

 

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Facilities Director/Center Director the incumbent is responsible for the safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere.  The incumbent may also provide support in other areas as assigned.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Typical Physical Demands: Physical stamina is required to tolerate continuous sitting, and lifting objects weighing up to 75 lbs.  Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.  

 

Typical Working Conditions:  Duties are typically performed in areas related to Bus.  May require automobile travel to various branches, training, seminars and workshops. 

 

Job Segments:

  1. Drives bus safely according to YMCA Child Development Academy policies and procedures and state laws.
  2. Maintains bus in orderly and clean fashion. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
  3. Promotes safety at all times , to include keeping the first aid supplies fully stocked.
  4. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  5. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  6. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  7. Adheres to uniform and personal hygiene requirements.
  8. Must ensure each vehicle used in providing such services is equipped with an emergency

communication system clearly labeled and appropriate emergency safety equipment,

including a seat belt cutter, charged fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

  1. Must ensure any auxiliary seating, such as temporary or folding jump seats, used in

     vehicles of any type providing such services are built into the vehicle by the

     manufacturer as part of its standard design, are maintained in proper working order,

     and are inspected as part of the annual inspection required under paragraph (e)(2)(i)

     of this section.

  1. Must ensure each vehicle used to transport children receiving such services is equipped

     for use of age, height, and weight appropriate chuld safety restraint systems as defined

     in Definitions/Terms.

  1. Must ensure vehicles used to provide such services are always in safe operating

     condition.

  1. Must:
  2. Assist the Facilities Director in conducting an annual thorough safety inspection

              of each vehicle through an inspection program licensed or operated by the state.

  1. Assist as requested, by the Facilities Director to carry out systematic preventive

              maintenance on vehicles.

  1. Implement daily pre-trip vehicle inspections, post-trip inspections, and all other

              other items as deemed necessary by the Facilities Director.

  1. Must ensure all paperwork is provided to the Facilities Director at minimum weekly.
  2. Must ensure CDL requirements are kept up to date as needed.
  3. Must ensure any problems with the bus are immediately reported to the Facilities

      Director.

  1. Drivers must ensure they keep their Fuel PIN secure, and only use it when refilling the

      bus.

  1. Any questions or concerns regarding parents, children, program staff, etc., are to

      immediately be addressed to the Facilities Director and Center Director.

  1. Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty,

  1. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • CDL required.
  • High School Diploma or satisfactory completion of the GED.
  • Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Certifications required within 45 days of hire: CPR/AED, BBP, and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Position requires a clear criminal background check to include an MVR (Motor Vehicle Report)
  • Requires the completion and acceptable results of a fingerprint check per the rules and regulations of the Head Start Program
