Typical Physical Demands:  Standing, sitting, and walking with minimum lifting (under 50lbs), and demonstration of exercise equipment as well as conducting all levels of exercise classes, personal training, and mentorship.

 Job Segments

  • Interpret, communicate, and promote the Family YMCA mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteers, members, and the community at large.
  • Instruct clients on techniques to maintaining exertion levels to maximize health and motivational benefits from exercise routines.
  • Have a passion for client results by offering alternative movements during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
  • Instruct with a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.  
  • Plan various engaging routines, music, and movements depending upon type of class to balance healthcare with fun and motivating programs.
  • Teach assigned classes on time and take ownership for covering classes with an appropriate substitute when absent.
  • Prepare fitness space for the class and restore space to its original state after teaching to create a nice place to work.
  • Provides industry relevant tips for the facility newsletter and community blog.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all ballet equipment.
  • Communicates effectively, regularly, and efficiently with Program Director
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers and members.
  • Handles Administrative tasks, including but not limited to scheduling, internal wellness promotion, and assists with special events planning.
  • Takes initiative to work independently on tasks.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Actively participates and supports the Annual Fund Campaign.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


 Education/Experience Requirement: 

  • College degree in physical education, exercise science, athletic training, or other related field is preferred. 
  • One to three years' previous experience as a Ballet Instructor is preferred.
  • Must be 21 years of age.

Status: Part time Non-Exempt, Flexible hours including nights and weekends

Location: Thomson Family YMCA

Hourly Rate - $16-20 per session
