POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct supervision of a Summer Camp staff.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Supervision Exercised: 60+ part time staff employees during peak season

Typical Physical Demands:       

Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Typical Working Conditions: 

Position is in wellness facility and outdoors.  May require automobile travel to branches, training, seminars or workshops.  Bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, verbal communication, hearing, seeing, 40% keyboard input, some sitting.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manages, directs and coordinates the summer camp staff implementing programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality summer camp experience and establishes new program activities.
  2. Ensures that camp attendees to camp staff ratio remains in compliance at all times.
  3. Supervises a group of children.
  4. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  5. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  6. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  8. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  9. Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  10. Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 18 years of age
  2. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred
  3. One to three years' previous directing staff in a day camp setting preferred
  4. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 60 days of hire date.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
