This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Resident Camp Program Director is responsible for furthering the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of program activities and events. Camp Program Director designs and delivers program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper's age and abilities. In addition, assists in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the camp director.

  • Ensure lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
  • Evaluate program delivery abilities of staff.
  • Deliver progressive program activities.
  • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers' abilities and skills in various activities.
  • Coordinate all camp program activities with other staff.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs.
  • Assist in the implementation of staff training.
  • Provide guidelines for programs utilizing camp equipment.
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures in all program areas.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.
  • Oversee daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris.
  • Supervise and evaluate Program Specialists to develop and implement all facets of camp program activities.
  • Regularly monitor work of Camp Counselors.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to Camp Counselors.
  • Develop and implement schedules and records for all areas of camp program and facilities.
  • Create camper and group activity schedules.
  • Collect and evaluate records; report and evaluate camp program and activity areas.
  • Along with Camp Director, act as a host/hostess for group camping clients.
  • Help the Camp Director to market and recruit campers and groups.
  • Attend administrative staff meetings.
  • Participate as a staff member of the camp team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all camp activities and camp functions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Camp Executive Director.

  • High school diploma or GED required or in process, some college preferred
  • Experience working with children, preferably as a leader in a camp setting
  • Experience teaching or advanced knowledge in a designated specialty camp activity area
  • Experiences in administrative roles at similar camp
  • CPR and First Aid certified, can be obtained


  • Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds
