This is a seasonal position beginning May 2018 and ending August 2018.



This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Waterfront Director creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while guiding campers throughout their experience in water/aquatic activities and programs and creating a learning environment for campers in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. The Director works closely with the camp leadership team to plan and implement camp-wide activities and evening programs.

  • Assist in pre- camp set up of waterfront
  • Assist in pre- camp evaluation of waterfront equipment and structures
  • Supervise and manage all waterfront program staff and areas. Report any needs to the Director
  • Develop and maintain a Waterfront Program Manual that maintains the highest safety standards
  • Schedule staff and campers into waterfront program areas
  • Perform daily visual observation of all waterfront staff
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of all boats, supplies and equipment in the waterfront area
  • Responsible for readiness of all waterfront activities at the beginning and close of each activity day
  • Supervise and evaluate waterfront staff three times a season (pre-season, mid-season and post)
  • Assist in opening/closing day activities as needed including swim checks
  • Assist with staff training (lost camper drills waterfront)
  • Perform and execute weekly lake drills
  • Assist in planning and organizing closing banquet for staff
  • Assist in organizing evening programs and camp-wide activities
  • Supervise campers during Free Time
  • Conduct announcements during meal times


  • Participate in performing nightly bed checks of campers and staff
  • Create and implement a "rainy day" plan along with the Land Director, and Leadership Team
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by camp directors
  • Strive to ensure waterfront programs are safe, fun, challenging, and promote youth development and skill progression
  • Ability to serve and respond in a positive, respectful, timely, caring manner to a diverse background of user groups

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) season experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Current certification in YMCA or Red Cross Life Guarding
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and organize program area logistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
