Position Summary: To provide a safe, supervised learning environment for Head Start YMCA Child Development Academy students while teaching the five essential domains of the Early Learning Framework of the Head Start Program. The framework will focus on Social and Emotional Development, Language Development and Literacy, Approaches Toward Learning, Cognition and General Knowledge, and Physical Development and Health.

Supervision Exercised: No

Typical Physical Demands: Standing for extended periods of time with physical activity, sitting, and lifting, up to 50 lbs.

Job Segments:

  1. Leads programs to include sports, nutrition, physical activity and social skills.
  2. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  3. Responsible for the safety and well-being of children while under their watch
  4. Assure child has a positive and welcoming experience.
  5. Must be familiar with all emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  6. Responsible for finding a substitute for themselves when they are unable to work. Notify the supervisor as soon as possible of any substitutions.
  7. Attend all child care training classes as required
  8. Attend all staff meetings as required
  9. Must have dependable transportation
  10. Daily travel to assigned branches. Potential work sites will be located at the Head Start Academy's in Aiken, Barnwell, Graniteville, Blackville, Monetta, Salley and Williston
  11. Perform all other duties as assigned to meet the Family Y's mission and goals.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Knowledge and experience with the Early Learning Framework (HSCLDELF) preferred.
  • Clean Criminal Background check (CRC) and drug screening.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid within 45 days of hire.
  • 1 3 yrs. experience working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Status: Part-time Non-Exempt

Location: Aiken Family Y - with travel to Barnwell, Graniteville, Blackville, Monetta, Salley, and Williston sites. Mileage reimbursed.

Hourly Rate: $8.00 - $11.00

Availability: Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 11:30 am
