POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Program Director the incumbent is responsible for providing direction for the child watch programs, and implementing appropriate program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Occasionally requires working irregular hours.

Typical Working Conditions:  Position is mainly in a wellness facility and may require automobile travel to branches, training, seminars or workshops.  Bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, verbal communication, hearing, seeing, 40% keyboard input, some sitting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines
  2. Designs and implements activity plans
  3. Schedules, supervises, trains child watch staff
  4. Responsible for the successful running of the program Parents' Night Out
  5. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities
  6. Supervises, reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  7. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child
  8. Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents
  9. Maintains program site and equipment
  10. Maintains required program records
  11. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
  12. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers and members
  13. Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  14. Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign
  15. Performs all other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Previous experience with diverse populations
  • One to three years' related childcare experience required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Products
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
