POSITION SUMMARY: Manage games played between teams according to official rules and regulations. The umpire is expected to cooperate with coaches and other officials to develop a positive self-image in the players and to provide a good role model for all participants.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Bending, stopping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Typical Working Conditions: Position is outdoors on sports fields. Exposure to inclement weather conditions is possible.


  • Officiate at sporting events, games, or competitions, to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed
  • Signal participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play or competition.
  • Inspect sporting equipment in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
  • Keep track of event times, including play times and elapsed time during game segments, starting or stopping play when necessary.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


  • Working knowledge of sport's rules and regulations
  • Prior experience with sport refereeing/umpire preferred
  • Certifications required within 60 days of hire: CPR/AED, BBP, and First Aid
  • One to three years' related experience and/or training
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
